Are you looking for: home kitchen inspiration, ideas and tips? Then this blog is exactly what you are looking for. After all, a living kitchen is not just any kitchen. It is the place where you make breakfast in the morning, but also where you can enjoy snacks and drinks with your guests until late in the evening.
Does the thought alone put a smile on your face? Isn't it wonderful to dream away? Let's get started, shall we? Before you know it, the kitchen of your dreams will be in your home ๐
What is a live-in kitchen?
Have you heard the term residential kitchens somewhere and would like to know what kind of kitchens they are? Then read our explanation below.
The term home kitchen is another word for living kitchen. Both kitchens are the same but have different names. As interior designers, the terms fly around our ears. But really, everyone wants the same thing: a kitchen where you can reflect on a delicious meal with the people you love. Viva la vida: live life!
How big are residential kitchens?
A residential kitchen can be placed in large and small spaces. This type of kitchen makes your living room and kitchen become one together.
What do the kitchens look like?
What your ideal home kitchen will look like depends on what you and your family value. Do you like to host dinner parties? Do your kids do their homework at the dinner table? Do you think it's important to have an extended lunch with your (grand)children and their partners every Sunday?
You might have guessed it a bit: a living kitchen is different for everyone. This is because it is personal and everyone gives it their own unique interpretation. And as interior designers, we love that, of course.
We help people like you realize their dream kitchen. Even if you don't yet know exactly what the kitchen of your dreams should look like. Would you like to know what we can do for you? Then feel free to take a look at our custom kitchen page. Here we explain everything step-by-step.
Why a residential kitchen?
In the article, we have already mentioned some benefits. Below we have listed the benefits for you. You can then clearly see the different advantages.
- No enclosed kitchen, so you can still have conversations with your partner, children and guests while cooking;
- open space, making your living room and kitchen together as one;
- The open kitchen also allows you to keep a close eye on your playing children and pets;
- enjoy your guests in your kitchen with kitchen island and/or bar until the late hours;
- enjoy modern appliances and your ideal kitchen design.
Tips for creating the eat-in kitchen of your dreams
Tip 1: open kitchen
Do you have a smaller space? Even then a (small) living kitchen is ideal. Especially if you use lighter colors, the room appears larger. Many people therefore often choose a kitchen with a kitchen island. They can then use the kitchen island as a dining table and bar. In this way, they use the space as efficiently as possible. Smart right!
Tip 2: Choose the right kitchen appliances
Which kitchen appliances should I choose? This of course depends on your needs and requirements, but also on space you have at your disposal. A large kitchen can accommodate a wine cooler, two ovens, a dishwasher, an induction hob and a full bar.
But in a small kitchen, you don't always have those options. Of course, there are still plenty of options to satisfy your desire for luxury. By choosing a smaller induction cooktop or stove, refrigerator and hood, for example. This will leave you with more space for other kitchen utensils and appliances. ๐
Tip 3: Dim lights are easy and atmospheric
Lighting is more important than you think, because always bright light or too little light is annoying. Let's face it: you don't want to cook in the dark or dine "romantically" with your partner under bright white light, do you? That's why we almost always recommend dim lights. They are simple, beautiful and particularly atmospheric ๐ก
Kitchen living inspiration: Pinterest and home decorating magazines
Do you want a live-in kitchen with a luxurious bar? Or would you rather choose a kitchen island? Residential kitchens come in different shapes, sizes and styles. Just take a look on Pinterest or in an interior design magazine. You'll soon find out that there are a variety of kitchen styles. From country to industrial.
As interior designers, we don't really believe in kitchen styles, but you can get inspiration and ideas from them. Just like the tips we shared earlier in this blog.
We always say:
"You wonโt find the kitchen of your dreams in an interior design magazine or a kitchen storeโbut you can have it custom-made."
The kitchens below are a good example. Which kitchens do you like and don't like? You can also clearly see that you can't always associate a specific kitchen style with them ๐ This is because these are custom kitchens that we have made to order for clients.
How do you create the eat-in kitchen of your dreams?
You know you want a residential kitchen, but what style should you choose? We understand that you want to give your kitchen a certain style, but is it really necessary? Choosing a kitchen style that is all the rage right now is not always the best option....
Our advice: don't go looking for a specific kitchen style right away. We often suggest the opposite. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, open the app Pinterest on your smartphone and type the word "kitchen" in the search bar. Then you'll see different types of kitchens that you can't always associate a specific kitchen style with. This prevents tunnel vision and provides real inspiration for your kitchen of your dreams.
